What coaching is….and isn’t

There is sometimes confusion about what coaching is.   It is important to understand what to expect before starting on a journey in coaching. Coaches partner with people in a thought-provoking and creative process that helps them to maximize their personal and professional potential.   Coaches work from the foundation that everyone has energy, wisdom, ability, and genius waiting to be unleashed.  Working together, a coach helps the person to set themselves on the path towards achieving what they want.

It is very important to note that coaching is not therapy. Coaching is not designed to diagnose or treat mental illness.  Therapists work with people to help them understand their past experiences in order to improve emotional health and change behavior.  Coaches support behavior change through goal setting and supporting people to identify their own path forward.
